Dutchess (Relaxed) solitaire rules (1 deck of cards)<< Dutchess | Eagle Wing >>
Goal: The first card played to a 'foundation' determines the starting rank. Move out the other 3 cards of the same rank when you can, and build them up to piles of 13 cards in the same suit. Aces play onto kings.
4 fans of 3 cards each are dealt. There is no building on these cards. The top card of each fan is available for play. It is from one of these fans that the first card must be chosen.
4 more cards are dealt to begin the layout. Build the layout down in alternating suit color. Any number of cards from the top of a pile can be moved. Kings play onto aces.
Empty piles are filled from the fans. If the fans are empty, then empty piles may be filled from the deck.
Turn over one card at a time from the deck, playing the top card to other piles when you can.
One redeal is allowed, returning the waste pile back to the deck.
Variation of: Dutchess
Difference: Partial piles of cards are allowed to be moved.
Like Canfield (Relaxed), some modern implementations have opted to allow partial piles to be moved within the layout. This can sometimes release a card that can play to the foundation.
