Cribbage Square (Open) solitaire rules (1 deck of cards)<< Cribbage Square | Crossword >>
Goal: Form the best Cribbage hands you can. 61 points is a win.
Arrange 16 random cards into a 4x4 grid. Cards can be moved after being placed. Each row and column forms a total of 8 Cribbage hands. Aces are low (before two). The 17th card is turned up as the 'starter'. It is used in all 8 hands as the 5th card. Cribbage points are given as follows:
2: Fifteen (any number of cards totalling 15; J, Q, K = 10)
2: Pair (2 cards of the same rank)
6: Three of a Kind (3 cards of the same rank)
12: Four of a Kind (4 cards of the same rank)
3: 3-Card Run (3 cards in sequential rank)
4: 4-Card Run (4 cards in sequential rank)
5: 5-Card Run (5 cards in sequential rank)
4: 4-Card Flush (all 4 dealt cards in the same suit)
5: 5-Card Flush (all 5 cards in the same suit)
1: His Nobs (Jack matching the suit of the starter card)
2: His Heels (starter card is a Jack; scored once)
Every occurance is scored. E.g. 5, 6, 7, 8, 8 will score for a pair (8, 8), fifteen twice (7, 8 x 2), and a 4-card run twice (5, 6, 7, 8 x 2), for a total of 14 points.
Variation of: Cribbage Square
Difference: All 16 cards are set out face up so that you can see what cards you have to work with before placing them, as well as the 17th card, the starter. You can also move cards after placing them.
This variation follows the same style of 'open' rules as Poker Solitaire (Open).
The usual solitaire scoring starts at 1000, adds 100 for each scored card, deducts 10 for each move, 1 for each second of time, and adds 2000 for a win. It's the same for this game, except that 80 is added for each cribbage point rather than 100 per scored card. 61 cribbage points are required for a win.
This is one of 4 layouts for Cribbage Square (Open) in Solitaire Forever II.
