Rainbow solitaire rules (1 deck of cards)<< Raglan | Rainbow (Relaxed) >>

Goal: One card is dealt to determine the starting rank for the 'foundation' piles. Move out the other 3 when you can, and build them up to piles of 13 cards each in the same suit. Aces play onto kings.

13 cards are set aside as the 'reserve', with the top card turned up and available for play.

Build the 4 piles of the layout down in alternating suit color. Only entire piles may be moved onto other piles. You can't move a partial pile. Kings play onto aces.

Empty piles are filled immediately from the reserve. If the reserve is empty, then empty piles may be filled from the deck.

Turn over one card at a time from the deck, playing the top card to other piles when you can.

2 redeals are allowed, returning the waste pile back to the deck.

Variation of: Canfield

Difference: The deck turns up 1 card at a time rather than 3. You only get 2 redeals.

This also has its own variation: Rainbow (Relaxed)

Note: There is an unrelated 2-deck game also named "Rainbow".

Rules source: The Complete Book of Solitaire & Patience Games, Albert H. Morehead & Geoffrey Mott-Smith ~ The Penguin Book of Patience, David Parlett ~ World's Best Card Games for One, Sheila Anne Barry ~ 100 Games of Solitaire, Helen L. Coops (no redeals)
